Sometimes a critical piece of evidence can be passed over without closer examination by experts. That piece of evidence can mean finally earning justice for a child’s life lost and the opportunity to bring peace and closure to a mother in pain.

A recent case has made the news in which an incident deemed a suicide was fought by a mother who insisted it was not. The incident was investigated twice by local police and then by the military, but criminal charges were never filed, claiming insufficient evidence. The mother then filed a Wrongful Death suit in civil court against her son’s roommate.

Pivotal evidence in the case concerned a Ring camera recording on the exterior of the residence where the incident occurred. The camera recorded the activity of the day outside the home. The Camera also recorded audio – though faintly – from the inside of the home.

JURIS LTS made sure that this recording could be leveraged to its full potential when this case made it to Federal Court even when the Judge ruled the recording could not be edited to enhance it. JURIS LTS:

  • Set up the poorly outfitted courtroom with high end equipment including an equalizer, mixer, and studio monitor speakers
  • Analyzed, planned and rehearsed timed manual adjustment to decibel levels to reduce and amplify sound
  • Executed adjustments of audio and video live in court in real time to remove or reduce foreground noise and clarify the audio from inside the home

This expert audio adjustment, performed live with professional equipment, made it possible for the jury to hear the argument between the defense and the plaintiff’s son followed by a gunshot.

When paired with the additional evidence available, the jury confidently returned a judgement for the plaintiff. The mother received justice, and while she asked only $35K for funeral expenses, she was awarded $4M from the jury.

JURIS LTS can ensure your critical evidence is seen and heard. Our skill with audio, video, digital and other evidence formats can make all the difference.
